Carl Gordy is "The Poet." That is the moniker the former Huntsville mayor, now in his early 70s, has bestowed upon himself.
"I write what I feel," he told the MMI in a interview earlier this year. Gordy has been known to ask for a pen and paper while out on the town — to then scribble down whatever words come into his head, and to share them with the room. Sometimes, inspiration can be hearing but a simple phrase.

Moberly High: Here's your sign
The giant Moberly Spartan logo "pops" from the wall, marking the main entrance to the Moberly High School.
Mattox Signs attached the 3/8-inch brushed aluminum logo to the brick Monday afternoon (June 17). Members of the Moberly School District Administration, as well as school board members, gathered to see the completed pattern before Phil Mattox "did his magic" with final cut aluminum.

Summer food program
For the sixth year, Randolph County Caring Community Partnership has been contracted to sponsor the summer food program, to feed kids a free lunch weekdays through Friday, August 9. Patricia Hendren shares, "The first week of the program, we served more than 3,000 lunches. This is the highest number of lunches served in a week since the program began." 450 attend Art on the Block
Per Moberly Area Community College Public Relations Director Scott McGarvey, it is estimated that close to 450 people lined the streets around the college last Saturday (June 8) for their fourth annual Art on the Block event.
There were 12 interactive booths at the event, including such events as stone polishing, drip paint projects, spray paint graffiti art, chalk-making, tie-dyed t-shirts, theater mask design, and cookie decorating provided by Bratcher's Market.
